The Impact of Emojis in Workplace Communications and Information Governance
Tuesday, August 24, 2021
10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Abstract: The percentage of the connected population utilizing emojis in workplace communications has increased from 33% in 2016 to more than 77% today. More than 26 million custom emojis have been created in Slack and the use of emojis in Microsoft Teams is universal, revolutionizing the way we communicate. Some employees have entire discussions in emojis; and it only takes one emoji to change the meaning of a message. This session will provide an overview of the benefits, challenges, and risks associated with emojis in workplace communications and in information governance. We’ll also discuss practical solutions for the problems emojis present.
Speaker: Matt Mahon, CEDS, IGP, INFO National Manager of Information Governance and e-Discovery, Ricoh USA has fourteen years of experience supporting organizations with information governance and litigation support strategies, including data remediation, litigation hold, preservation, collection, data processing, review, and production. Matt leads strategy and training for the Ricoh sales team, consults with clients, delivers CLE training, and is a frequent speaker and writer on information governance issues. He earned his B.A. in Mathematics and Applied Sciences from the University of California San Diego. Matt lectures widely on topics including the Internet of Things, the impact of emojis and social media in workplace communications, information governance, and e-Discovery.
